RTL To Regroup And Consolidate With A 'Family Of Stations' RTL Nederland announced that it would regroup its channels and stations with a 'family of stations'.

RTL Nederland will be strengthening and regrouping its TV channels and radio stations on Friday, 12 August, launching its 'family of stations', consisting of RTL 4, RTL 5 and RTL 7. The TV channel Yorin will disappear, but RTL's radio stations will keep their names: Yorin FM and RTL FM. Within the family of stations the success of market leader and family channel RTL 4 will be further consolidated in the autumn, with established hits being complemented by new formats like Dancing With The Stars on Saturday evening and a new informative and entertaining programme every weekday at 11 p.m.. RTL 5 will become the second major RTL channel for a broad public, but with more adventurous programming. The new RTL 5 will be the only free TV channel showing live first division soccer, followed by a hilarious daily chat show with Robert Jensen, blockbuster films and big favourites like CSI: New York and CSI: Miami. The new RTL 5 will also broadcast new Dutch programmes that will certainly make waves, covering topics from crime to lifestyle, cookery and cutting-edge reality TV. RTL 7, the latest addition to the RTL family, will have resolutely horizontal weekday programming, broadcasting news and business stories followed by related programmes during the day and classic comedy, entertainment, feature films, events and any sports except football, e.g. darts, motor racing, tennis and horse-racing, dressage or show-jumping in the evening. At 8.30 p.m. in the evening RTL 7 will also offer viewers another chance to see amusing highlights from other RTL channels on the previous day(s). In so doing RTL 7 is meeting viewers' growing needs, as shown by the success of repeats of Idols, RTL Boulevard and TV Makelaar. From the coming season onwards, RTL 7 will also increasingly become the channel of interactive programming geared to specific target groups.

RTL 4 builds on its success

RTL 4, the undisputed market leader among consumers aged between 20 and 49, will remain highly recognisable after 12 August, but will build on its success. Next season the many successful Dutch drama series, extremely popular RTL news broadcasts and large number of programmes offering top entertainment from the Netherlands and abroad will be complemented by new formats that have proven themselves abroad. In addition, a number of old favourites will be freshened up. Next season RTL 4's widely praised early evening schedule will form a strong basis for the rest of its evening programmes. Het Zes Uur Nieuws, Editie NL and RTL Boulevard will return. Anchorman Albert Verlinde and his smart companion Daphne Bunskoek will again attract countless viewers with RTL Boulevard. After the 7.30 p.m. news broadcast GTST will provide new storylines, plots and cliffhangers, and the most successful Dutch soap will celebrate its 3,000th episode in September. RTL 4 will make that into a real happening for its viewers. Next season's prime time TV will be crammed full of established hits. And before the most-watched TV programme in recent years, Idols (next season with the new duo of presenters Martijn Krabbé and Chantal Janzen), gets under way again, Saturday evenings will feature another internationally successful formula Dancing With The Stars. So entire families will be able to sit down together and enjoy a long Saturday' evening's entertainment on RTL 4. Next season Editie NL Laat will further consolidate its late evening slot thanks to a few well-chosen changes to its content and a slightly new look. Later in the season the programme will be followed by a  new, informative formula in which interaction with viewers will play a central role. Life & Cooking, which marks the end of that carefree weekend feeling for many Dutch viewers, will be back on Sunday afternoons. In the new season RTL 4 will pull out all the stops to make it the public's undisputed favourite, thanks to a spot-on mix of trusty favourites, quality and innovation.

The new-look RTL 5 will show top films and series, live first division soccer and Dutch products that are guaranteed to get people talking

RTL Nederland recently concluded a major deal with Universal. Thanks to that deal and previous agreements concluded with Sony Columbia and Fox, RTL now has far and away the best range of films on Dutch TV. RTL 5's viewers will benefit from this, and from 12 August onwards will be treated to an uninterrupted flood of weekend blockbusters and TV film premieres, including Ali G Indahouse, The Hulk, Terminator 3,  Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason, Along Came Polly and Love Actually. The much-talked-about new channel for a broad viewing public will not only show top films, but also top-flight football. In fact, from 12 August RTL 5 will be the only free TV channel to show live first division soccer on Friday evening, including a preview and post-match analysis. RTL 5 will also screen the institution Voetbal Insite with its new team of Barbara Barend and Marcel Maijer. In addition, on RTL 5's behalf RTL Nederland is working on a new deal with the public broadcasting authorities to gain exclusive sub-licensing rights to World Cup soccer next year, to broadcast simultaneously played matches. In the evening the new RTL 5 will broadcast top series like CSI: Miami and CSI: New York (along with RTL 4's Crime Scene Investigation by far the most avidly watched series in the world!), the new Queer Eye For The Straight Guy and the Dutch TV travel magazine Travel. Every working day's broadcasts will end with a topical, hilarious and razor-sharp late night talk show with Robert Jensen which is being extended not only from one to five days a week, but also to cover a wider range of topics. In addition to showbiz news it will also cover broader topical social issues. The big new RTL 5 will offer viewers aged between 20 and 49 - and especially 20- to 34-year-olds - a resolutely Dutch product, comprising top films and series and live first division football.

The new RTL 7 will be both comfortingly familiar and refreshingly surprising

The latest addition to the RTL family, RTL 7, will live up to its slogan of being both familiar and refreshing and target 20- to 49-xear-olds, primarily men. Apart from soccer, all the sport shown by RTL will be concentrated on this channel, including motor racing, darts and Wimbledon tennis. Thanks to the newly established RTL Z, RTL 7's viewers can follow all business and international news during the day. When there's any breaking news scheduled  news broadcasts will return in the evening, but for the most part the channel will have optimally recognisable horizontal programming, showing classic comedies, action series, entertainment, films and events, leaving 8.30 p.m. as the fixed time for top amusement, repeating hits shown earlier the same week on RTL 4 and RTL 5 for viewers who missed a programme or want to see it again. More and more viewers are grabbing such second chances with both hands. For instance, in the last few seasons well over 500,000 viewers took the opportunity to catch Idols' second time around. Next season RTL 7 will meet these growing needs of viewers on a daily basis. In addition, RTL 7 will create more space for interactive programmes aimed at specific target groups, developed by some of RTL's many media specialists. In short, RTL 7 will become the ideal additional RTL channel for consumers and advertisers alike.

Multimedia is not just a promising buzzword at RTL Nederland. The group has already built up a lead in this area, which it will consolidate in the years to come in a bid to provide a better service for consumers and advertisers. Besides TV, radio and the activities of RTL Interactief (which include the Internet and text messages), more recently developed activities such as RTL Licensing (marketing rights for DVD sales and events, for example) and RTL Video (online video shop) are also flourishing. Recently, RTL Entertainment was launched to invest in new Dutch feature films and distribute and market them in various ways. The Baantjer film and Wild Romance, about the life of Herman Brood, are its first productions.
