For the first time since 2001, Radio Contact, has taken the lead with a 17.9 per cent market share. This exceptional result in Radio Contact’s history comes from record growth in its target market, listeners age 12 to 44, and by a remarkable increase in the number of daily listeners of 13 per cent or 665,584 listeners who are charmed each day by the station’s good mood and music.
“These are excellent overall results,” comments RTL Belgium’s Chief Executive Freddy Tacheny. “I would first like to emphasize the remarkable performance of Radio Contact, which takes the lead in market share after uninterrupted growth for the fourth consecutive wave… It’s the result of repositioning in Radio Contact’s target market and a truly comprehensive plan of action during the entire period that has seen Radio Contact attract even more listeners.”
On the other hand, in numbers of listeners, Bel RTL is still the leader in the 18th wave of the CIM survey with 703,000 listeners, which is 2.2 per cent more than in CIM’s 17th wave. Bel RTL remains the favourite radio station in French-speaking Belgium. A slight shift in listening duration (decreasing 4 per cent) caused a 0.8 per cent loss in market share for Bel RTL (17.2 per cent as compared to an 18 per cent market share in CIM’s 17th wave).
Radio Contact and Bel RTL now hold a 35.1 per cent market share, accentuating RTL Group’s leadership status in French-speaking Belgium among the five public radio stations of the RTBF (31.5 per cent).
