WWM_Shell_iPhone_teaser Wer wird Millionär? app scores 250,000 downloads The new Wer wird Millionär? app for iPhone and iPod touch is flying off the virtual shelves at the German App Store: with a record 250,000 downloads in under ten days, the media brand’s debut as an app went exceedingly well.

The application premiered in the App Store on the first weekend in December (see Backstage report) and went straight from zero to number one in the download charts. At times, the run on the app was so huge that the server capacity had to be massively expanded.

“The vast demand from users has strengthened our determination to offer a premium version very soon, that can be played anywhere and at all times even without an Internet connection,” says Robert Fahle, head of the Mobile department at RTL Interactive. “I am convinced that people are prepared to pay for high quality content if they offer added value.”

For comparison: the news magazine Stern reported that its app was downloaded around 380,000 times from its launch in February 2009 through the end of November. With 250,000 downloads in just ten days, Wer wird Millionär? is among the most successful apps in the German App Store.
