Potential candidates initially practice using a microphone and a webcam, along with software that immediately analyses their vocal performance and provides helpful hints. Afterwards, the candidates have to pass muster with a virtual jury, which decides based on their vocal merits – range, expression and musicality – whether the candidate is to be given the chance at a slot on the TV show. The number of times the video is viewed, and scores given by other Internet users, are also included in the decision. The top candidates can then present their performance on the TV show, where they will be assessed by the judges Nick & Simon, Jeroen van der Boom, VanVelzen and Angela Groothuizen.

As soon as the show goes on the air, candidates can keep their fans abreast of developments on TheVoiceOfHolland.com, uploading status updates, photos and videos to the site with their mobiles. When the show makes its debut, at least five of the candidates will come from the online auditions.
The online auditions will run through 20 August. In addition to the new casting site, RTL 4 has also set up a new Twitter account for the show. The Voice of Holland is presented by Martijn Krabbé and will be on air on RTL 4 starting this fall.
