Hindenburg Ein deutscher Traum Major campaign for Hindenburg RTL Creation has mounted a major campaign to build anticipation for the major TV event Hindenburg – RTL Television’s most expensive own production to date.
With an all-star international cast and a record budget of over EUR 10 million, the historic film about the Hindenburg disaster of 1937 is the most lavish production in the history of RTL Television. RTL Television began showing the first teasers and trailers just before Christmas 2010, and now the campaign has moved into its hot phase.

Ads have been run in popular magazines and daily newspapers all over Germany in a sweeping campaign since 12 January. The main motif of the ad is the Hindenburg airship, shown with the caption “A German Dream.” It deliberately does not focus on the disaster, in order to reflect the population’s fascination with technology in general and the budding field of air travel in particular, as well as to create positive associations with the topic. Up until 2 February, the nationwide billboard and print campaign will also have a presence in cinema theatres, with a special spot created for this purpose, as well as ‘Freecards” – 8-page folding books containing the campaign motifs and information on the event movie.

Björn Klimek, Creative Director Promotion and Advertising at RTL Creation, says: “Hindenburg is one of the year’s most elaborate campaigns and underscores RTL Television’s competence in event movies. The scope and content of the campaign reflects the high production standards and the importance of event movies in RTL Television’s programming.”

RTL Creation worked closely with the Teamworx production team from the first day of shooting until the film was completed, in order to do full justice to the look and feel of this exceptional production. Artwork from the 1930s was transported into the present and serves to underscore the historic scale of the event. RTL Television will air the TV event at 20:15 on Sunday 6 February and Monday 7 February.
