The past TV 2009/10 season had a lot to offer - especially thanks to Grundy Light Entertainment. The annual Saisoncheck (Season Check) performed by the media service Kress shows that the Grundy Light Entertainment was once again Germany’s most successful television production company, with its popular formats such as Deutschland sucht den Superstar (Idols) and Das Supertalent (Got Talent). This is the fourth consecutive year Grundy LE has defended its leading position - this time, incidentally, with a greater lead than ever over the runner-up (Brainpool TV).
Overall, just like last year, the company is represented no fewer than five times in the top 100 of the Kress Saisoncheck and is the only production company with four formats that each reached more than three million viewers. The Kress Saisoncheck bases its producer rankings on a points system for the 100 standard formats most watched by the 14 to 49 demographic. 100 points are awarded for first place, 99 points for second place, etc.
Grundy LE Managing Director Ute Biernat (see teaser picture) was delighted with the result - and is especially looking forward to a new format, which the UFA subsidiary will soon broadcast on Vox: the talent show X Factor. “We’re exploring a new form of personal involvement here,” she told the Kress Report in an interview. “The judges are an active part of the process, serving as supporters and mentors to the talents. During the shooting to date, we’ve already noticed that this results in a whole new level of authenticity.”
In addition to the production company rankings, Kress also draws up a ranking of production groups. Here too, the UFA group, which includes Grundy Light Entertainment, occupies first place. UFA, too, managed to significantly expand its lead again year-on-year, and is now 643 points ahead of the second-placed group MME Moviement, which scored just 288 points.
