A record-breaking season debut In September 2011, M6 registered a total audience share of 11.2 per cent and had its best monthly performance in two years.
 
With a 0.3 percentage point increase over September 2010 and a 0.5 percentage point increase over August 2011, M6 registered an 11.2 per cent total audience share in September 2011 – the best total audience share for the channel since September 2009. Strengthened by these very good results, M6 is to date the only national channel to increase its ratings over the previous season, thus holding on to its position as the number 3 national channel for the eighth consecutive month this year.

One of the audience’s top favourites in September was Le Petit Nicolas, shown at the start of the school year on Thursday, 1 September 2011, which allowed M6 to gather about 7.3 million viewers for a 30 per cent total audience share. M6 was the most watched channel in prime time that evening and achieved its highest ratings ever for a French film. On the same day, Le 19:45 presented by Xavier de Moulins registered its biggest total audience share with 3.2 million viewers and a 16.1 per cent audience share.

Ten years after the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington, M6 paid tribute to the victims and broadcast a special edition of its emblematic newsmagazine show entitled Enquête exclusive: Spéciale 11 septembre : dix ans après. The programme aired on 4 September and allowed the channel to register a total audience share of 18.3 per cent.

On 12 September, the final episode of L’Amour est dans le pré, presented by Karine Le Marchand, ended the sixth season on a beautiful note with 6.6 million viewers – 1.2 million more viewers than the season finale of the previous summer.

September was also a record month for series. Season 7 of Desperate Housewives registered its best launch on the channel since 2007 (Season 2) and gathered 4.3 million viewers in prime time on 13 September. Last but not least, the mini-series Scènes de ménages, which has become an essential for relaxation and humour to millions of French viewers, broke a new audience record, captivating 4,149,000 viewers on 27 September for a 16 per cent total audience share, the highest ratings for the series since its creation.

In September 2011, M6 also achieved its highest audience share with housewives under 50 since April 2011, posting a 17.6 per cent share of this demographic.
