In 2009, RTL Televizija confirmed its market-leading position for the fourth consecutive year in all-day broadcasting, scoring 26.2 per cent of the market, and fifth consecutive year in prime time, drawing 28.1 per cent (Target group 18-49, source AGB Nielsen Research).

The year 2009 got off to a spectacular start with the broadcast of the 21st Men’s World Handball Championship. RTL Televizija once again underscored its market leadership: new production standards never before seen in Croatia gave an unprecedented dimension to emotions and sports elements. The final match between France and Croatia scored excellent ratings with an audience share of 81.3 per cent among young viewers and became the channel’s most-watched programme ever.

The good ratings continued with the broadcast of the new docu-soap format Ljubav je na selu (The Farmer Wants A Wife). Host Lorena Nosic took the viewers to the countryside, where the search for love proved to be full of surprises. Viewers were increasingly won over by the rural romance, with ratings climbing steadily from one episode to the next. On average, the 12 episodes of the first season attracted a 29.1 per cent audience share in the target group. Idols, the international talent show now has a Croatian version, too: Hrvatska traži zvijezdu was the talk of the nation last year with an average 32.1 per cent audience share.

The new reality show Jezikova Juha (Kitchen Nightmares) featuring chef Stephan Macchi elicited positive responses across the board from both critics and viewers. Stephan and his approach to rescuing and assisting restaurant owners throughout Croatia attracted 27.2 per cent of young viewers. RTL Televizija is responsible for bringing some of the world’s most popular series into Croatian homes, including Chuck, CSI: Miami, CSI: New York, Mentalist, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Bones and Cold Case. Viewers clearly appreciated the quality of its offerings, and all 10 of the year’s Top 10 prime-time series in the 18-49 demographic were RTL Televizija programmes.
