104.6 RTL and 105’5 Spreeradio in Berlin have effectively underscored their exceptional position in the region’s radio market and jointly top the MA rankings for Berlin. For the first time in the history of Berlin radio, the two RCB Radio Center Berlin channels are at No.1 (104.6 RTL) and No.2 (105’5 Spreeradio) in the German capital. In Berlin’s radio market, more than 30 FM stations vie for the listeners’ favour.
With a market share of 18.2 per cent (a 2.6 per cent increase over the previous Media-Analyse) among 14- to 49-year-olds and 12.2 per cent (1.0 per cent more than in the previous MA) in its target group of over-10-year-olds, 104.6 RTL has once again grown its viewer market share and is now the market leader in Berlin. 105’5 Spreeradio came in second with a market share of 10.6 per cent in the over-10-year-old demographic–a 1.8 per cent increase since the previous MA. The station was also able to grow its market share among 14- to 49-year-olds from 7.8 per cent to 8.5 per cent.
Stephan Schmitter, Managing Director of 104.6 RTL and 105’5 Spreeradio, comments: “The figures are the result of a magnificent team effort. We are delighted about this fabulous success and the high-reach environment the can offer our customers. We will do everything in our power to continue to deserve our listeners’ trust. And of course we intend to defend our top two positions with our excellent-quality programming.”
There’s cause for celebration in southern Germany as well: Antenne Bayern once again averaged more than a million listeners per hour. Karlheinz Hörhammer, Managing Director of Antenne Bayern, is proud that he and his team have sustained this high level of performance for such a long time: “For 20 years now, Antenne Bayern has been the most-listened-to commercial radio station in Germany, and this is the fifth time we’ve cracked the million-listener mark for an average hour. That rocks! – not just for our team, but also for the state of Bavaria.”
For Gert Zimmer, CEO of RTL Radio Deutschland, the latest figures confirm that RTL’s radio stations are on the right track with their long-term strategy: “Even in a difficult market environment, we’re steadily expanding our reach. This is the result of creative diligence and a systematic optimisation of our programming and structure. The positive developments in viewer reach provide a stable basis for sustained business success. Our stations are now in the best possible position to continue winning over the advertising market with attractive deals. In addition, the figures indicate that radio is a vibrant, powerful medium and plays an outstanding role for listeners throughout their day – even compared with other media genres.”
