This historic victory brought the Ukrainian IBF and WBO heavyweight champion the WBA title, securing the last of the four most important World Championship belts for the Klitschko family. Ratings peaked at the late-night hour of 00:15, and represented 75.7 per cent of the total viewer market – three-quarters of all German TV viewers had their attention firmly on the boxing ring. The broadcast from Hamburg’s Imtech Arena averaged 15.50 million viewers and a total viewer market share of 67 per cent. Among 14- to 49-year-old viewers, 69.9 per cent tuned in – the highest ratings ever for a Klitschko fight on RTL Television. The past record of 13.45 million was set on 11 October 2010 when Vitali Klitschko successfully defended his WBC Champion title against the American boxer Shannon Briggs.
The next Klitschko match takes place on 10 September in Wroclaw (Breslau), when WBC Champion Vitali will set out to defend his title against the Polish challenger Tomasz Adamek. The World Championship bout is the first of five additional fights for which RTL Television recently secured the exclusive broadcasting rights. Wladimir Klitschko will also take to the ring once more this year, probably between October and December.
