RTL Television scored four nominations for this year’s Adolf Grimme Award. Debut consultant Peter Zwegat (Raus aus den Schulden – Get out of Debt) and the coaching format Die Ausreißer – Der Weg zurück (The Runaways – The Way Back Home) hosted by Thomas Sonnenburg are nominated for the Entertainment/Special award. The two-part event movie Das jüngste Gericht (Judgment Day) and the new comedy series Doctor’s Diary – Männer sind die beste Medizin (Doctor’s Diary – Men are the best Medicine) are in the running for the Fiction/Series & Miniseries award.

UFA’s production firms were nominated for another eight awards: the Teamworx productions Das Wunder von Berlin (The Miracle of Berlin), Mogadishu and Mitte 30 (Mid-30s) as well as UFA Fernsehproduktion’s 12 heißt: Ich liebe dich (12 means I love you) were nominated for the Fiction award.
Nominees in Fiction / Special included Nina Haun, Casting Director at UFA, who was nominated for her work on the films Mitte 30, Die zweite Frau (ARTE/WDR), Im Gehege (ZDF), Mogadishu and Einer bleibt sitzen (ARD/BR), Hanna Herzsprung for her performances in Liesl Karlstadt and Karl Valentin (ARD/BR), Das wahre Leben (ARD/SWR/BR/SF) and the Teamworx production Werther, and Judith Kaufmann for her camerawork on the UFA Fernsehproduktion production Bella Block – Reise nach China (Trip to China).

Nico Hofmann, Producer and Managing Director of Teamworx, says: “We are especially proud of the fact that among the many nominees are films from completely different genres, including TV events that tell German history from a new perspective and with great attention to detail, a production like Mitte 30 which deals with contemporary problems in society, and the drama Werther, which enables a new, contemporary access to classic material.”
Finally, Werther, a film produced by Teamworx was nominated for the Special Award sponsored by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The winners of the 45th Adolf Grimme Award and the Special Award will be announced at a press conference on 25 March 2009; the awards will be presented on 3 April 2009 in Marl.
