The miniseries Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter (Our Mothers, Our Fathers) centres on World War II as an event that shaped a whole generation of young people. It tells the story of five friends and their life and survival between 1941 and 1945 – ranging from experiences from the front during the Russian campaign, to life in an increasingly destroyed wartime Berlin, to the experiences of a young Jewish man who leaves Germany at the last minute and eventually returns to Europe as a soldier with the US army. The elaborate project will begin shooting next year under Lars Becker (Nachtschicht/Night Shift), one of the most famous directors in German TV and cinema.
“As a producer, I see the three-part script by Stefan Kolditz as the last great work for TV that deals with the years between 1938 and 1948,” says CEO Teamworx Nico Hofmann, who is co-producing Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter with Benjamin Benedict. “After productions like Stauffenberg, Dresden, Die Flucht and Nicht alle waren Mörder, my focus will lie on the fate of young people who experienced the war and the Third Reich when they were between the ages of 18 and 28.”
