A total of 27,000 users sent more than 30,000 Tweets between 21.00 and 21.30, making the debate the No.1 Trending Topic on Twitter. “It was an experiment, and it got great results,” beams Frits Wester, moderator of the Twitterdebat. “We decided to show all Tweets in order to present a complete picture. That made it difficult at times to follow developments. It was easier to follow the politicians though, as they had their own list. All in all it was exciting, but a lot of work, too.”
Users were able to watch the debate on www.rtldebat.nl. RTL Nederland also joined forces with TSS to bring the Tweets to TV screens in real-time: a special Teletext page allowed viewers to watch the news and the debate without having to leave their TV sets.
